This is the ideal place to relax, swim and soak up all the sun! Calm and peaceful with an abundance of Mediterranean charm, the village of Portiragnes is surrounded by fields and vineyards. Located 5km from Béziers it is an ideal location for the perfect holiday. Authentic and very beautiful: almost everyday a sunny one, drink wine from the largest and most varied vineyards of France, soak up all that ancient culture, walking long, white beaches and sitting by the beautiful blue Mediterranean sea. The infamous Canal du Midi that is still one of its kind; the ancient Greek town of Agde and last but not least, Béziers's sparky cathar past to present bullfights & wine country. There are so many choices of activities in the Hérault region. Poised perfectly between the easterly Camargue marshes and the westerly Cathar country, the Hérault is the hidden part of southern of the expansive Languedoc Cevennes, Caroux and Black Mountain ranges, hugging the Mediterranean with 100 km of triumphant coastal southern sand.

The Portiragnes area

The village has a 12th century church, post office, medical centre, a few shops, a local market, restaurants and several local wine producers. . A fantastic restaurant to visit is 'Mon Reve d'Enfant'. Also the wine co-operative (La Campestre) is where you can try the fine local wine the Sauvignon and Vigneron are especially good. We recommended you hire a car, this way you can experience all of the regions natural beauty and history. Remember Spain is only 1hr 30 minutes away. However, if you decide not to hire a car during the months July & August there is an excellent bus service from the village Portiragnes to the beach (plage) which runs hourly throughout each day and costs just 1€ each way per person.
